A little bit of history

Our journey began…

…back in 1972 when our father (Cyril) and uncle (Mac) opened the first on land, individual lobster pound in Swim’s Point, Nova Scotia.

It started with an old salt fish concrete tank, buried in the ground, close to the ocean on the site of the original Swim’s Family company.

For the first time ever, lobsters were placed on a layer of wire & individually separated and for the entire month of May, layer after layer of lobsters were stacked until the stands were full.

Water was then pumped into the bottom & top of the tank and in August, the tank was drained and the lobster removed. Unfortunately, most of the lobster perished due to the lack of water circulation BUT the one that lived were unbelievably perfect!

In that moment, the light switch was turned on and we never looked back and over the next 40 years, we invested in perfecting the absolute BEST method to individually house lobster.

In 1972, we hit the ground running…

and haven’t stopped since. When it comes to innovation, our family has a few firsts. We were the first company to successfully execute long term lobster storage, the first to use plastic lobster totes, among the first to use rubber bands & utilize refrigeration and much more!
